Fix It Yourself

MSA Gallet Flight Helmet DIY Repair & Refurb Guide

You can handle many MSA Gallet fixes at home with basic tools and the right parts. Start with the easy wins below. If anything looks cracked, unsafe, or unclear, stop and use our repair service.

Before you start

  • Tools: small Phillips screwdriver, plastic spudger, cotton swabs, isopropyl alcohol, microfiber cloth
  • Work on a clean towel to avoid scratches
  • Disconnect cords and remove batteries or power sources

Easy fixes first

1) Replace worn ear seals

Peel off the old seals. Clean the rim with alcohol. Align the new Boxell Comfort Ear Seals and press evenly. Check for a full seal around the ear.

2) Refresh comfort liner and pads

Swap in a fresh comfort liner. Make sure crown and side pads are centered for even pressure.

3) Smooth visor travel

Inspect tracks and screws. Replace worn hardware with the HPH Visor Tracks & Screw Set. If your outer lens is scratched, install a new outer clear lens. Add a visor cover for protection when off duty.

4) Set mic boom position

Tighten the boom so it holds position without drift. Replace a damaged boom with a metal rail mic mount. Place the mic close to the corner of your mouth and test sidetone.

5) Swap mic element and short cord

If audio is weak or noisy, install a new mic assembly like the 5701 mic with 14" cord. Confirm connectors are fully seated and strain relief is intact.

6) Replace the main comm cord

Check for kinks, cuts, or intermittent audio. Replace with a coiled main cord or a straight cord that matches your aircraft jack.

Fit and audio checks

  • Mic tip near the corner of your mouth without touching skin
  • Even pad pressure across the head and around the ears
  • Confirm the cord path has no pinch points
  • Match components to your aircraft intercom specifications. If unsure, contact us.
When to stop and send it in

Cracks in the shell, delamination, damaged retention hardware, failed visor mechanism, or any impact damage should be evaluated by a technician. If you have questions, we can help.
